Facebook Messenger will be the one that kills SMS!

I apologize for the sensational title.

*Jazz hands*

When iOS 5 launched, I posted a link to a blog post on TechCrunch that claimed iMessenger will kill SMS. I noted that I think they’re just doing the typical TechCrunch thing, and claiming that this week’s buzzword will bring down an oldschool powerhouse. You know, because they have to get those click throughs.

iMessenger is great and all, but it’s limited to devices that run iOS 5. What if I want to send messages to my brothers on Android and Blackberry? What good is an SMS killer if it’s only available on one platform?

A phone number works, but those can change and come on, those are what our grandparents use. That’s not cool.  (You know what’s cool? GOD STOP IT)

If anything was going to put a dent in SMS, it would certainly be Facebook Messenger. The app exists on iOS, Android, Blackberry, and it is built into Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. That would be the most likely suspect if new tech was capable of committing a crime such as murder.

In reality, it won’t upset the carriers if you text less. They’ll just roofie you on the data charges.
